A Firelit Harmony – Casa Kakmo in Izamal Magical Town by Garrido Lizarraga Arquitectos

Casa Kakmo is a fully renovated hospitality retreat in Izamal, Mexico, embracing the town’s iconic yellow palette, regional craftsmanship and contemporary minimalism. Its fluid indoor–outdoor connection and serene poolscape create an immersive Yucatan living experience.

Named after the Mayan “fire macaw,” Casa Kakmo is a vibrant homage to the living mythology of Izamal, the famed “Yellow City” of Yucatán. Situated just steps from the revered Kinich Kakmo pyramid, the property embraces its cultural and geographical context with intention. Garrido Lizarraga, responsible for the architectural project, construction and finishes, envisioned not simply a restoration but an immersive environment capturing the warmth, symbolism and sensory richness of the region. Complementing this vision, Dórica Arquitectura developed the interior design, furnishings, accessories and textiles, ensuring that the experiential and sensorial qualities of the architecture were carried seamlessly into every interior gesture.
