Sophisticated Tranquility – Apartment in Ferrater Building by Marina Acosta
The primary focus of this project was to create a serene yet sophisticated environment for tenants who are business professionals, likely relocating temporarily for work. This target audience seeks a space that’s not just well-situated but also designed to cater to their professional and personal needs.
The design team selected an understated yet elegant style, incorporating a subtle oriental influence that enhances the apartment’s refined ambiance. This aesthetic is a perfect match for the apartment’s existing features, with the design emphasizing clean lines and the use of warm, neutral tones. Decorative wood slats, finished in a rich walnut hue, were integrated throughout various areas of the apartment. These slats echo the apartment’s original woodwork, creating a cohesive and harmonious look. The overall palette—an elegant mix of greys, neutral shades, and natural wood—contributes to the inviting warmth of the space.

To further align with the profile of potential tenants—business professionals in search of comfort—the furniture selection and arrangement were carefully curated to maximize space and functionality. The apartment offers an open, uncluttered layout that promotes relaxation while retaining a sense of sophistication. High-quality, modern furnishings were chosen for their sleek design and timeless appeal, perfectly balancing practicality with aesthetic pleasure. The living room serves as the heart of the home, where oversized, plush seating invites moments of rest after a long day. Here, minimalist design rules, with carefully chosen accent pieces providing subtle hints of luxury. Textures, such as soft throws and pillows, add layers of warmth to the cool, neutral tones of the walls and floors, making the space feel both modern and cozy. The combination of natural light, unobtrusive decorative elements, and rich materials elevates the overall sense of tranquility and refinement.
Throughout the apartment, every design choice was made with the goal of creating a unified and coherent visual narrative. The interplay between the natural walnut wood accents, sleek grey tones, and soft furnishings brings a sense of balance and calm. This continuity of design not only enhances the apartment’s overall aesthetic but also contributes to a feeling of harmony and relaxation—qualities essential to a luxury home.

The Ferrater building, designed by renowned architects Carlos Ferrater, Xavier Martí, Lucía Ferrater, and Luís Domínguez, is itself a testament to modern architectural innovation. The building consists of two luxury residential blocks that flank the towering Iberdrola structure, with each offering optimal orientation for natural light and cross-ventilation. The apartment benefits from large windows that flood the space with light, amplifying its sense of openness.
The architectural design is further enhanced by the use of Technal's Unicity series windows, featuring slim, 55 mm aluminum profiles. These allow for maximum light entry while offering superior thermal and acoustic insulation—essential for maintaining comfort in the heart of the city. The apartment is enveloped in an environment that feels open and airy, while simultaneously ensuring the privacy and serenity needed for restful downtime.
In keeping with the demands of a modern lifestyle, the apartment is fully equipped with intelligent systems that offer control over the lighting, heating, and air conditioning—all managed through a central home automation panel located at the entrance. This integration of smart technology ensures that tenants can easily adjust their environment to suit their personal comfort, whether they are working from home or unwinding after a busy day. The façade of the building incorporates metallic elements that provide privacy without sacrificing natural light. These movable screens allow tenants to shield the glass areas when needed while still enjoying the panoramic views of Bilbao’s skyline.
