Luxury interiors often celebrate excess, but the finest projects understand the power of restraint. This remarkable residence at The Estates at Acqualina proves that sophistication emerges not from abundance, but from carefully orchestrated proportions, exceptional craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to creating spaces that enrich everyday life.
Designed by Adriana Lacruz and Jorge Fuentes, co-founders of FL Interiors Design Studio, the apartment occupies an extraordinary oceanfront position in Sunny Isles Beach, where architecture and landscape exist in constant dialogue. Conceived as a vacation home for a large family, the residence was planned to comfortably welcome up to twelve occupants without sacrificing intimacy or elegance. Rather than dividing the apartment into rigidly defined rooms, the designers embraced openness, allowing the foyer, living room, dining area, kitchen, and expansive terrace to unfold naturally into one another while maintaining distinct identities through furniture arrangements, lighting compositions, and material transitions.
The Atlantic Ocean becomes one of the project’s defining design materials. Continuous floor-to-ceiling glazing dissolves the boundary between inside and outside, flooding every principal room with natural light while framing uninterrupted views of the horizon. Instead of competing with this spectacular backdrop, the interiors remain intentionally restrained, allowing the changing colors of the sea and sky to provide an ever-evolving visual composition. Wide circulation paths, low-profile furnishings, and carefully preserved sightlines reinforce the remarkable sense of openness that characterizes the entire residence. Materiality plays a central role in establishing the home’s refined atmosphere. A disciplined palette of ivory, cream, sand, soft gray, and charcoal creates visual continuity throughout, punctuated only by carefully placed black accents that introduce depth and definition. Marble appears as the project’s primary architectural language, with each variety selected to suit the character of its environment. Striato White marble enriches the main living areas with elegant directional veining, while the dramatic Mercury Black marble island transforms the kitchen into a sculptural centerpiece. In the powder room, expressive Viola marble paired with a striking black onyx vanity creates a jewel-like composition, while Gris Bardiglio marble envelops the master bathroom in a serene monolithic elegance reminiscent of an exclusive wellness retreat.
Each private suite develops its own subtle personality while remaining faithful to the home’s overall design language. The primary bedroom achieves remarkable serenity through a sophisticated composition of backlit white onyx panels, vertical slatted detailing, bespoke furnishings, and tactile textiles that emphasize warmth over extravagance. Positioned to maximize panoramic ocean views, the suite flows seamlessly into a meticulously designed Molteni&C dressing room and a spa-inspired bathroom where a freestanding Lacava bathtub overlooks the Atlantic, transforming daily rituals into moments of quiet contemplation. Custom millwork represents another defining feature of the residence. Lacruz and Fuentes describe their bespoke cabinetry as “haute couture,” an apt comparison considering the extraordinary precision with which every panel, bookshelf, headboard, and storage system has been tailored specifically for its setting. Throughout the home, integrated lighting concealed within architectural recesses and custom furniture subtly enhances these handcrafted elements, allowing surfaces to glow softly while emphasizing texture and depth without visual clutter.

Lighting is treated not merely as illumination but as architecture itself. With impressive five-meter ceilings providing generous vertical volume, the designers developed multiple layers of recessed coves, concealed linear lighting, integrated millwork illumination, and sculptural pendants to create distinct atmospheres throughout the day. During daylight hours, sunlight remains the dominant source of illumination, while evening transforms the apartment into a composition of warm ambient glows that accentuate architectural forms rather than overpower them. Secondary bedrooms introduce gentle variations within the carefully controlled palette. Tonal layering defines the Gray Room, where multiple shades of gray combine through upholstered wall treatments, bedding, and soft furnishings to create an enveloping atmosphere. The Sand Room introduces warmer beige hues and elegant vertical detailing, while the girls’ bedroom incorporates muted pinks and lavender through lacquered wall panels and refined furnishings that feel sophisticated rather than overtly playful. Wood-look porcelain flooring throughout the private quarters further enhances the transition from the polished elegance of the public spaces to the comfort expected within intimate family environments.
