Rooted in legacy and imbued with love, this family property holds a special place in the hearts of its owners. With a vision of creating a space that celebrates togetherness while respecting its history, Nani Design Studio reimagined the interiors to serve as a modern-day sanctuary where three generations could gather, reminisce, and create new memories.
The property, which has been in the family for three generations, is more than just a home; it’s a treasure trove of shared moments and stories. Tasked with preserving this emotional connection while meeting the demands of modern living, the design team at Nani Design Studio focused on an open-concept layout. By integrating the kitchen, dining, and living areas, they created a space where everyone could come together effortlessly—without sacrificing personal touches. Inspired by the sand-colored surroundings, the designers chose a neutral color palette featuring whites, nudes, and beiges. This selection served as a serene backdrop that amplified the natural light flooding the home. These muted tones not only lent warmth and calmness but also allowed the sea and adjacent natural park views to take center stage.
One of Nani Design Studio’s hallmarks is its ability to weave narratives through design. In this project, the team artfully balanced the old with the new. Historic furniture pieces from the 1960s were salvaged, repainted, and reupholstered, breathing new life into them while preserving their sentimental value. Meanwhile, contemporary additions like a sectional sofa and daybed catered to the younger generation, ensuring the space felt inclusive and versatile. The incorporation of natural materials such as reclaimed wood, stone, and parchment accent pieces echoed the home’s connection to its environment. These elements harmonized beautifully with the client’s cherished art collection and abstract-patterned textiles, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.
While the client desired an open concept, they didn’t want the space to feel as expansive as a loft. The solution came in the form of a semi-wall with a bar-height countertop, which subtly delineated the kitchen from the rest of the area. This practical design choice maintained a sense of openness while ensuring each space retained its unique character. Lighting played a pivotal role in elevating the interiors. Sleek Italian track lighting added a contemporary edge, contrasting beautifully with the neutral tones and traditional decor. Repurposed table lamps were seamlessly integrated, adding layers of warmth and familiarity.
The project faced numerous challenges, particularly with construction delays during the pandemic. However, the team’s commitment to transparency and collaboration with contractors ensured the project stayed on course. The final outcome, thoughtfully executed by Nani Design Studio, exceeded expectations, embodying the essence of adaptability and perseverance.
The ultimate success of the project lay in its ability to tell the client’s story. By honoring their art collection, revitalizing heirloom furniture, and designing a space that welcomed all ages, the home became a living tribute to family. Designed by Nani Design Studio, the redesigned interiors not only brought joy to the clients but also set the stage for countless future gatherings.
