The renovation of this expansive family apartment begins with a clear intention: to reinterpret the existing layout to better suit the evolving lifestyle of its occupants. As the family grew, so did the need for more generous, interconnected, and functional spaces. MAZ Arquitectura approached the transformation with precision, identifying opportunities to enhance light, comfort, and fluidity. The decision to shift the kitchen to the main facade became the anchor of the project, allowing the home to reorganize around a radiant new core. By placing the kitchen at the front of the apartment and linking it directly with the living room, dining area, and entrance, the project creates a unified common zone where daily life unfolds naturally. This spatial continuity increases brightness and encourages social interaction, turning what was once a series of separate rooms into a cohesive living environment. The open sequence strengthens the relationship between interior functions and the natural light flowing through the facade, generating an atmosphere both calm and uplifting.

In contrast to the openness of the common areas, the private rooms are intentionally relocated to the rear of the home. Set against the quieter building and courtyard patios, the bedrooms enjoy a serene environment that supports rest and privacy. This zoning strategy defines a clear day-night rhythm in the apartment, ensuring that communal activities remain lively while the sleeping quarters retain a peaceful, sheltered character. The resulting arrangement reflects a thoughtful understanding of domestic routines and the need for balanced coexistence.

One of the renovation’s most emotionally meaningful interventions is the recovery of a previously enclosed rear terrace. At the request of the clients, MAZ Arquitectura restored this generous outdoor pocket, giving the main bedroom suite an invaluable connection to fresh air and natural light. The terrace becomes a place for pause, reflection, and quiet moments — a rare luxury in an urban residence. Its reopening not only enriches the apartment functionally but also reinstates a sense of openness and breathing space that had been lost.

One of the defining qualities of the project is its sophisticated interior carpentry. Large glazed doors, lacquered in a subtle sage green, introduce a refined character while enabling light to pass generously between rooms. The corridor is enriched with a slatted wainscot that brings depth and warmth to the circulation space, transforming a transitional zone into an experience. Throughout the home, custom-made furniture blends seamlessly with the walls, reinforcing the visual coherence and soft tonal palette that characterizes the project.
