A sanctuary of thoughtful craftsmanship and refined materials, Gore Suite is a celebration of space and design.
Simon Hamui Studio’s visionary approach transforms an expansive footprint into a seamlessly flowing residence, where wood, texture, and form define an elegant yet cozy retreat. Every detail reflects a careful balance between contemporary sophistication and timeless warmth, creating a haven of comfort within Vail’s breathtaking landscape. At the core of Gore Suite’s ingenuity lies its Lock-Off design—an innovative spatial strategy that accommodates both intimate family retreats and guest-friendly hospitality. By merging two apartments into a singular residence, Simon Hamui Studio masterfully crafts a dual-purpose home where fluidity and function coexist effortlessly. This vision elevates not only the home’s versatility but also its ability to provide an unparalleled living experience tailored to varying needs.
From the moment one steps inside, a tapestry of wood textures unfolds, setting the tone for an immersive experience in warmth and tactility. The discovery of a concealed gable roof during the renovation process became a defining feature of the suite, now preserved and elegantly finished in eucalyptus wood. This architectural gem enhances spatial perception, introducing both height and an organic visual rhythm that ties the interiors to nature. Beneath this striking ceiling, the flooring echoes the same reverence for materiality. Aged oak, arranged in a sophisticated mosaic, brings a sense of time-honored craftsmanship to the space. The intentional gray patina applied to all wooden elements not only enriches their character but also establishes a seamless aesthetic cohesion throughout the residence.
Gore Suite’s attention to bespoke detailing is exemplified in its millwork, where custom vanities and doors are crafted from whitened Sucupira wood, subtly accented with cow fur details for added depth and contrast. Every transition within the residence unfolds with deliberate intent, leading to a primary bedroom that exudes tranquility and exclusivity. At its heart, the bedroom showcases the SH Collection's Gerrit Bed, a bespoke centerpiece complemented by separate closets that enhance both intimacy and practicality. This careful spatial organization ensures that the master suite remains a private retreat while maintaining a connection to the rest of the home.
Designed to be both visually striking and highly functional, the kitchen stands as one of the most compelling features of the residence. Prefabricated in Mexico and assembled on-site, the kitchen’s elements—including stairs, an abacus-inspired lattice, and a sculptural chimney—exemplify precision and innovation. The central island, adorned with eucalyptus wood, anchors the space, while gray quartzite countertops subtly reference the snowy landscapes of Vail. In a seamless transition, the kitchen counter extends into the dining table, embodying an open-plan concept that fosters togetherness and effortless interaction.
In contrast to the lofty ceilings found elsewhere, the living room embraces a more intimate scale, defined by a low ceiling clad in textured cross-cut oak. This choice enhances the cozy ambiance, encouraging moments of relaxation and conversation. A fireplace, ingeniously doubling as a game table, becomes the focal point of this space—transforming into a setting for cherished family pastimes like chess and backgammon. This dual functionality echoes the overarching theme of adaptability that permeates the entire residence. Beyond its primary living and dining areas, Gore Suite accommodates a TV room/library and a mezzanine office—both designed with family gatherings in mind. The latter was a fortunate discovery during the unveiling of the ceiling, now transformed into an additional layer of flexible space. Recognizing the need for adaptability, Simon Hamui Studio ensured that different areas within the residence could be independently utilized or seamlessly connected. This thoughtful division allows residents to curate their environment based on mood and occasion, reinforcing the suite’s versatility.
A true hallmark of luxury, the residence’s expansive windows frame Vail’s spectacular scenery, inviting the outdoors into every corner of the home. Beyond these glass thresholds, a generous deck unfolds, equipped with a round sofa, fire pit, jacuzzi, and lounge chairs—perfectly curated for summer relaxation. Further enhancing the suite’s wellness appeal, a dedicated massage room serves as an intimate retreat, aligning perfectly with Vail’s emphasis on holistic well-being and leisure. This thoughtful inclusion transforms the residence into more than just a home—it becomes an immersive sanctuary designed for complete rejuvenation.
Gore Suite is a masterclass in spatial innovation, material authenticity, and tailored craftsmanship. Simon Hamui Studio’s approach ensures that the residence feels both expansive and intimate, balancing privacy with communal engagement. Through carefully curated details, from eucalyptus ceilings to custom furnishings, the suite achieves a seamless dialogue between architecture, nature, and lifestyle. Blending functionality with artistic refinement, Gore Suite redefines luxury living in a way that is both timeless and forward-thinking. This residence is not just a place to stay—it is an experience, a reflection of thoughtful design, and an invitation to dwell in harmony with its surroundings.
