About this story
The Museum of Science is preparing to open the William and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Science Common, a 10,000-square-foot flexible venue overlooking the Charles River. Designed by William Rawn Associates and built by Consigli, the space uses floor-to-ceiling glazing, reconfigurable layouts, integrated projection and media systems, movable walls, and retractable seating to support public talks, performances, immersive presentations, livestreams, and community events. Bloomberg Philanthropies provided lead support.
Status and timeline
Construction is nearing completion. The 10,000-square-foot venue is scheduled to open to the public on October 10, 2026, with a celebratory event announced for October 28, 2026.
Design highlights
A transparent civic room facing the river; reconfigurable layouts; movable partitions and retractable seating; integrated immersive-media and broadcast systems; architecture intended to broaden public participation in science.
