About this story
The University of South Florida has begun construction on Uptown Landing, formerly called the Fletcher District. Phase one covers approximately 30 acres and is planned with 700 student-housing beds, four to six restaurants, retail, a hotel and conference center, and a major academic research building. The combined first-phase value is estimated at nearly $500 million, including approximately $270 million for the public-private development and $225 million for the university research building. The district is within walking distance of USF’s on-campus stadium.
Status and timeline
Groundbreaking and the Uptown Landing name were announced September 8, 2026. Phase one is expected to open for the fall 2028 semester.
Design highlights
Mixed-use campus neighborhood; integration of living, research, hospitality and game-day activity; public-private delivery model; pedestrian connection to the stadium; new campus and regional gateway.
