About this story
The Centre for Contemporary Arts Tashkent has opened in a revitalized 1912 industrial building that originally served as a diesel station and tram depot. Studio KO reimagined the structure as Uzbekistan’s first permanent center for contemporary art, research and community engagement. The institution includes exhibition areas, a specialist library focused on art and visual culture, public programs, a restaurant interpreting Uzbek cuisine and a shop whose proceeds support programming. The Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation led the project.
Status and timeline
Opened to the public September 6, 2026, with an inaugural exhibition and first-year cultural program.
