The designer’s first museum exhibition brings together work from across her practice with new site-specific installations, making the show a substantial design and spatial experience rather than a product launch.

About this story
The Museum für Gestaltung Zürich’s first museum exhibition dedicated to Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis brings together key bodies of work and new site-specific light installations. The exhibition explores her use of light, color, reflection, transparency and materials including glass, resin and stone. Mathmos Column Lava Lamps appear in an installation of eight lamps and mirrors; Sunbeam Captured, created with Boris Acket, uses mechanically generated water waves and moving light to evoke sunlight and water.
Status and timeline
On view October 30, 2026–April 4, 2027. An artist talk with Sabine Marcelis is scheduled for November 26, 2026.
Design highlights
Light becomes an experiential material through reflective and translucent surfaces, mirrored space, a moving water surface and site-specific installations. The show includes work made with Boris Acket and a Mathmos collaboration.
