730 Stanyan Street, Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco, California
About this story
Designed by OMA’s New York office, led by Jason Long, with San Francisco-based Y.A. Studio, 730 Stanyan is a mixed-use affordable housing development commissioned by Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation and Chinatown Community Development Center. Its housing is organized around multiple courtyards and shared spaces, with street-facing community and commercial functions connecting the development to Haight Street, Stanyan Street and Golden Gate Park.
Status and timeline
Completed in 2026. The development provides 160 permanently affordable homes for low-income families, formerly unhoused families and Transitional Age Youth.
Design highlights
A courtyard-based organization breaks down the scale of the block, distributes daylight and outdoor space, and creates distinct communal environments for a mixed resident population. The project treats affordable housing as civic urban fabric rather than an isolated residential object.
