The William and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Science Common is a flexible civic venue overlooking the Charles River with approximately 270-degree views of Boston and Cambridge. Designed by William Rawn Associates and built by Consigli Construction, the space uses movable walls and retractable seating to support intimate discussions, school programs, conferences, performances, and events for several hundred participants. Its immersive-media platform includes movable LED walls, spatial audio, floor-and-wall projection, real-time data visualization, 4K production cameras, and livestreaming systems. The project is supported by a $155 million Bloomberg Philanthropies gift described by the museum as the largest in its history.
Status and timeline
Construction is nearing completion. The 10,000-square-foot venue is scheduled to open to the public on October 10, 2026, with a celebratory event on October 28, 2026. Initial programming is to be announced separately.
