The August 18 referendum authorizes the City of Miami to proceed with Oak View Group as the prospective operator of Miami Marine Stadium and its adjacent Flex Park. Oak View Group will manage the Flex Park for five years and prepare a comprehensive package covering stadium construction, financing, operations and management. That package remains subject to final approval by the Miami City Commission. Designed by Cuban-born architect Hilario Candela with engineer Jack Meyer and completed in 1963, the poured-in-place concrete stadium is distinguished by its broad cantilevered roof and waterfront seating facing Biscayne Bay. It has been unused since 1992. The city previously completed limited pile and pile-cap reinforcement in January 2024; its official capital-project page says restoration is intended to repair the structure while retaining its 1960s character and creating a three-acre plaza.
Status and timeline
City of Miami voters approved the appointment of Oak View Group as operator on August 18, 2026, with 69 percent support according to the restoration campaign. Oak View Group is now expected to develop a complete management, construction and financing package for subsequent Miami City Commission approval. No final construction schedule has been announced.
