About this story
MEXTRÓPOLI 2026, themed Movimientos, examines forces shaping urban life, from infrastructure, capital and public policy to climate, water, housing access, care and informal economies. The program includes twelve keynote lectures, three exhibitions, more than ten routes and specialist visits, nine public-space pavilions, a light installation, films, workshops, book launches and discussion panels. Speakers include Riken Yamamoto, Lina Ghotmeh, Junya Ishigami, Manuel Aires Mateus, Roger Boltshauser, Anna Puigjaner, Beatriz Colomina, Mark Wigley, Carlos Jiménez, Josep Ferrando and LANZA Atelier. The winning Arquine pavilion, El Muro, will be installed in Alameda Central.
Status and timeline
Scheduled for September 17–20, 2026. Paid tickets are available for the September 18 keynote program; most other activities are free, while city routes have limited capacity and require registration.
Design highlights
The city understood as movement, force and unequal displacement; architecture in public space; urban water systems; mobility and infrastructure; housing access; women's roles in shaping cities; temporary pavilions as civic connectors rather than barriers.
