About this story
MADE and the Barbican have launched a 23-piece collection spanning furniture, lighting, textiles and accessories. Developed through research into the Barbican Estate’s archives, original residential layouts and designer Miriam Howitt’s late-1960s show homes, the range reinterprets the complex’s modular planning, gridded concrete structures, curved elements and historic interior palette for contemporary domestic use. Products include seating, tables, storage, lighting and soft furnishings. The collaboration will also be presented through an installation examining the archival and design research behind the range during London Design Festival.
Status and timeline
The collection became available in August 2026. An accompanying immersive installation is planned at the Barbican during London Design Festival, September 12–20, 2026.
Design highlights
Translation of coffered concrete grids, curved architectural forms, modular layouts, sunken seating and Barbican balcony patterns into domestic furniture and lighting; a palette informed by Miriam Howitt’s original show flats.
