About this story
Jahn is reimagining the former State of Illinois Center, designed by Helmut Jahn and completed in the 1980s, as Google’s future Chicago workplace. The intervention replaces the original colored glass-and-metal exterior with a higher-performance envelope while retaining and adapting the building’s defining massing and central atrium. Current photography indicates that the new facade is nearing completion.
Status and timeline
Construction is underway with the replacement facade largely installed by August 2026. Jahn lists the project for 2026 completion.
