Kenyatta International Convention Centre and additional sites, Nairobi, Kenya
About this story
The inaugural Pan-African Biennale is organized under the theme Shifting the Center: From Fragility to Resilience. It brings together selected architecture offices, collectives, researchers and spatial practitioners representing all 54 African nations. Programming spans talks, public panels, workshops, screenings, open architecture offices and site-based encounters across Nairobi. The curatorial framework is divided among climate change, vernacular intelligence and African futures, positioning African spatial knowledge as a generator of global architectural ideas rather than a subject viewed primarily through external institutions.
Status and timeline
The inaugural edition runs September 7–11, 2026. Tickets are available, while reservations for limited-capacity workshops are expected to open closer to the event.
Design highlights
Continental authorship; climate resilience; vernacular intelligence; living archives; ecological repair; rotating host-city model; Nairobi treated as an active curatorial site.
