Herzog & de Meuron: In Focus opens at M+

The exhibition pairs a consequential new institutional donation with a study of Herzog & de Meuron’s work in China, using models, drawings, samples and replicated archival vitrines to examine how architecture is documented and exhibited.

Herzog & de Meuron: In Focus opens at M+

Focus Gallery, Level 2, M+, West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong

About this story

M+ is presenting newly donated models, drawings and material samples from Herzog & de Meuron, the architects of the museum’s building. The display surveys built and unbuilt work developed in China since the early 2000s, including M+, Tai Kwun and Beijing’s National Stadium, as well as urban-planning projects shaped by territory and landscape. The installation references the Herzog & de Meuron Kabinett in Basel by placing the objects in exact replicas of the foundation’s wooden archival vitrines, creating an open-storage presentation focused on design process, architectural knowledge and the challenge of representing buildings inside a gallery.

Status and timeline

The exhibition opens September 12, 2026, as part of M+’s fifth-anniversary programming. A closing date was not publicly specified on the verified exhibition page.
