Irish interior architecture practice Anam Design Studio overhauled a private home in East Sussex using natural stone, timber, ceramic tile and tactile textiles. A red-travertine kitchen forms the center of the project: slabs wrap the island and countertops and continue into a window bench, while dark-oak cabinetry and metallic detailing deepen the warm palette. An existing black Aga cooker was reportedly re-enamelled in bronze and brown. The kitchen connects to an unusually round dining room with limited daylight. Anam embraced that condition by creating a deliberately dark, club-like atmosphere using curved oak wall panels, stone-lined openings, a concealed door, integrated upholstered seating, bespoke stone-and-lacquer tables and a broad ceiling light. Elsewhere, a stone-framed opening mediates between a bright front reception room with off-white walls and a dark Cardosa-stone fireplace and a moodier rear television room lined with lacquered oak. Dark timber continues through the bedrooms and study, softened with wool and linen. Bathrooms use red and green handmade tiles with Rosso Levanto and Verde Alpi marble. The studio's official social updates corroborate the reception rooms, bedroom, green ensuite, UK location and Daniëlle Siobhán photography, although Anam has not published a dedicated project page naming East Sussex.
Status and timeline
Completed residential interior renovation. Finished photography was being published by the studio in August and September 2026, but the exact completion date, design start date and construction schedule have not been disclosed.
