About this story
The second Design Doha Biennial opened November 5, 2026, with exhibitions and public commissions centered on Fereej Al Asmakh, a historic district whose traditional houses, courtyards, narrow lanes, and shared spaces are being used as venues and public settings. The biennial explores how inherited material knowledge and making practices can inform contemporary design. The official program describes more than 15 exhibitions across over 20 countries, five public design commissions, and the headline Arab Design Now exhibition. The biennial is led by Director Fahad Al Obaidly, with Glenn Adamson as Artistic Director, Noura Al Sayeh curating Arab Design Now, and Javier Peña Ibáñez curating public design commissions.
