About this story
Founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art occupies a roughly 300,000-square-foot, five-story building designed by Ma Yansong of MAD with Stantec as executive architect. Its program includes exhibition galleries, two theaters, a library, retail, a café, a restaurant and event spaces. The building sits within a new landscaped campus designed by Mia Lehrer and Studio-MLA in Exposition Park. The institution focuses on visual storytelling across fine art, illustration, comics, film and other narrative media. The completed exterior is formed with more than 1,200 curved panels around a flowing, elevated silhouette.
Status and timeline
Building complete. Member previews run September 5–11, 2026. The museum opens to the public on September 22, 2026. Timed tickets are available through February 28, 2027.
