About this story
Commissioned by the Province of Jujuy, the cultural center provides a permanent home for six monumental Carrara-marble sculptures by pioneering Argentine artist Lola Mora. The approximately 3,000-square-meter complex includes an exhibition hall, interpretation spaces, library, shop, atelier, restaurant, educational facilities, and auditorium functions. A bridge crosses the steep site to the chisel-shaped main building overlooking San Salvador de Jujuy.
Status and timeline
Construction began formally in August 2022. The completed center was inaugurated on July 2, 2026 and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00.
Design highlights
Building form inspired by a sculptor's chisel; column-free gallery protected by a cantilevered roof; convex floor-to-ceiling glazing framing art and forest; bridge arrival sequence; photovoltaic panels, solar collectors, rainwater management, and a 30-meter tower with vertical wind turbines; use of Jujuy stone, timber, and local fabrication.
