The Centro de Experimentación Audiovisual occupies three levels of a former oil-mill facility in Avellaneda. The municipal institution brings together a 100-seat cinema, audiovisual archive, digitization laboratory, recording studios, exhibition space, workshop classroom, residencies, and public training. Its mission is to preserve, restore, digitize, and activate film, photographic, and sound collections while making audiovisual culture accessible to the surrounding community. The architecture was developed through Avellaneda’s Dirección General de Arquitectura and Secretaría de Planificación.
Status and timeline
The center was inaugurated on May 28, 2026, and is operating with screenings, exhibitions, workshops, guided institutional visits, archival work, and residency and training programs.
Design highlights
Adaptive reuse as active preservation rather than static restoration; integration of archive, production, exhibition, education, and public cinema; retention of industrial character alongside technically controlled audiovisual spaces.
