About this story
AART, Fogh & Følner, VEGA Landskab and Artelia have won the international competition for The Royal Treasury, a 1,300-square-meter underground extension at Rosenborg Castle. The project creates approximately 600 square meters of new exhibition space and new visitor facilities for the Royal Danish Collection, which includes the Crown Jewels and historic costume collections. Its defining intervention is the partial reinstatement of the castle moat. Visitors will be able to cross the water toward the existing castle or follow it into a narrow descending passage leading beneath the moat to the new galleries. The architecture is intended to remain visually subordinate to the historic castle and gardens.
Status and timeline
Competition-winning design selected. Construction dates and an opening timeline have not been publicly announced.
