Vision of Nature and Urbanity – The Tallest Building by BIG Architects

Rising elegantly above Quito’s skyline, BIG Architects' latest creation is more than just a towering structure – it is a celebration of nature's beauty and urban sophistication. The thoughtful integration of sculptural concrete planters with expansive residential spaces evokes a sense of tranquility amidst the bustle of city life.

This design allows the greenery of La Carolina Park to permeate the building, ensuring that each residence feels like an extension of the natural environment. The concept behind the building’s design is rooted in a desire to merge native nature with urban functionality. By incorporating sculptural concrete planters that extend into the apartments, BIG Architects creates a sense of continuity between the city and its natural surroundings. The building’s volume consists of rotated boxes that provide ample light, stunning views, and functional space for planters on the lower floors, making nature an intrinsic part of daily life. This deliberate integration of greenery into the structure represents more than just an aesthetic choice. It reflects a commitment to sustainability and urban living in harmony with the environment, enhancing residents' quality of life while promoting a deeper connection with nature.

"At the intersection of nature and urbanity, this building redefines the possibilities of residential design. It's a living structure, inspired by its natural surroundings."

As the tallest building in Quito, this project serves not only as a residential space but also as an architectural landmark. Its bold and innovative design has turned it into a focal point within the city, drawing attention for its distinctive form and integration of natural elements. The design’s thoughtful layering of light, space, and vegetation provides a unique identity in a city known for its mountainous backdrop and lush parklands. By positioning the building close to La Carolina Park, one of the city’s largest green spaces, BIG Architects allows the structure to reflect the landscape, creating a natural dialogue between the city and nature. This connection makes the building more than just a high-rise; it’s a visual representation of how urban environments can coexist with the natural world.

Beyond its striking exterior, the building offers numerous amenities and communal spaces designed to foster a sense of community among its residents. The design encourages interaction and engagement, allowing for spontaneous encounters and shared experiences that strengthen the sense of belonging within the building. The inclusion of shared spaces is not only practical but also symbolic of the building's role in promoting connectivity. In a bustling metropolis, such thoughtful design elements provide relief from the isolation that can sometimes come with city living, allowing for meaningful connections in a natural setting.

"Inspired by the landscape, BIG Architects bring nature into the city, promoting sustainability and a harmonious lifestyle for its residents."

While the exterior of the building captivates with its integration of nature, the interior spaces are equally refined, characterized by a carefully curated material palette that adds warmth and sophistication to the design. The kitchens feature Syros gold krono systems, with corrugated gray melamine providing a textured contrast. The countertops, made from Cosentino's Dekton Keyla, offer a durable and stylish surface, complemented by premium appliances like the HomeDreams oven, microwave, and D’Kocina kitchen hood. In the closets, Gales and Onix melamine offer a sleek and modern storage solution, ensuring practicality does not compromise aesthetics. Meanwhile, the bathrooms feature honey American oak veneer and Cosentino’s Dekton bromine countertops, creating a spa-like atmosphere that enhances the daily routine with luxury and warmth.

The building’s design is not just a nod to aesthetic appeal but also to environmental consciousness. By incorporating native plant species and materials that harmonize with the local ecosystem, BIG Architects ensures that the structure contributes to Quito’s environmental sustainability efforts. The presence of concrete planters, carefully integrated within the building's façade, provides not only a visual connection to nature but also improves air quality and promotes biodiversity within the urban landscape.

BIG Architects’ tallest building in Quito stands as a testament to the future of urban living, where architecture does not simply occupy space but enhances it. Through its innovative use of form, function, and nature, the building represents a new era in residential design, where the boundaries between indoor and outdoor, nature and structure, begin to blur.

The tallest building in Quito is not just a feat of architectural prowess; it is a symbol of how thoughtful design can enhance urban life by bringing nature into everyday experiences. Its innovative use of sculptural concrete planters, expansive views, and light-filled spaces are a reflection of BIG Architects' commitment to creating buildings that are as functional as they are beautiful, serving both the city and its residents.
