Rooted in Minimalism – Finca Aguy by MAPA Architects

Amidst the serene landscape of an Uruguayan olive grove, Finca Aguy offers a tranquil refuge, blending contemporary design with its natural surroundings. This prefabricated cabin, designed by MAPA Architects, is a minimalist masterpiece that prioritizes sustainability, offering both elegance and harmony with the environment.

Located near Pueblo Edén, Finca Aguy by MAPA Architects is a prefabricated structure that stands as a testament to the beauty of modular design. The cabin, composed of two 12.5-meter modules, was constructed in a factory outside Montevideo before being transported to its final location. This off-site construction not only allowed for precision in design but also significantly reduced the environmental impact of building on-site.

"Designed with sustainability in mind, Finca Aguy reflects the beauty of prefabrication and the importance of minimal environmental impact."

The decision to place the cabin within an olive grove was intentional, as the architecture emphasizes a deep connection with nature. The cabin’s design features an open-plan layout that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding landscape. Expansive glass windows frame sweeping views of the olive trees and rolling hills, ensuring that the natural beauty outside becomes an intrinsic part of the indoor experience.

The cabin’s placement on overlapping stone walls elevates it slightly from the ground, reducing the impact on the land. Concealed structural elements ensure the stability of the cabin, while the raised design allows for natural ventilation and minimizes disruption to the grove’s ecosystem. This thoughtful approach to construction underscores the architects’ commitment to sustainable, eco-conscious design. Inside, the cabin is a study in minimalism. The timber-clad interior provides warmth and a natural aesthetic that complements the outdoor environment. The symmetrical layout of the living spaces maximizes functionality while maintaining a sense of openness and simplicity. The large windows not only provide breathtaking views but also flood the space with natural light, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day.

One of the key advantages of prefabricated architecture is the ability to use industrialized materials with high precision, as MAPA Architects explains. This precision ensures minimal waste during the construction process, enhancing the sustainability of the project. By working with pre-manufactured components, the architects were able to streamline the construction timeline and reduce the amount of labor required on-site.

The cabin’s aesthetic is modern yet understated, with the natural materials and neutral color palette blending harmoniously with the olive grove. The timber façade echoes the colors of the surrounding trees, allowing the structure to almost disappear into the landscape from certain angles. This subtle integration into nature is one of the defining features of the project, as it avoids overpowering its environment.

Finca Aguy is designed to be a low-maintenance retreat, offering its residents an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The cabin’s remote location and minimalist design encourage a slower pace of living, where one can reconnect with nature and enjoy the tranquility of the olive grove. The spacious outdoor terrace extends the living area, providing a perfect spot for relaxation and contemplation.
