The architecture is a reflective creation where the integrity of materials and the virtue of simplicity form a sanctuary of sophistication. Casa 10 is situated at the top, taking advantage of the view of the evergreen ravine, while Casa 10 + 10 is located lower, perpendicular to the ravine, dominating the valley and the pastures for the horses.

The pure, single-level volumes expand across the terrain, opening all their rooms to the sun and the views of the surrounding landscape. This approach aligns with the Japanese landscape concept of "shakkei," which means capturing the surrounding scenery. The houses attempt to capture nature in all its dimensions through visual and spatial openings to the exterior, creating a connection with the interior via a series of interior patios and transition spaces (corridors) that also provide protection from the sun and rain.

"The use of insigne pine wood, prevalent in many of Mardones' works, including schools, restaurants, and homes, integrates the houses into their surroundings, creating an atmosphere of warmth, tranquility, and closeness."

The choice of a single material, insigne pine, is economically viable, sustainable, and recyclable, with low energy consumption for climate control. This material also facilitates quick and easy construction. The durability and local sourcing of materials, along with thermal insulation, appropriate orientation for natural light optimization, and passive design strategies, contribute to the houses' sustainable nature.

These passive design strategies include natural cross ventilation, which reduces the need for mechanical systems, and the creation of natural currents through patios and terraces. The use of native vegetation minimizes the need for irrigation and promotes local biodiversity. These sustainable practices significantly impact the comfort and health of the living spaces, creating a harmonious relationship between the architecture and its natural surroundings.

The efficient energy model ensures minimal energy consumption, reducing both costs and environmental impact.

The use of insigne pine wood connects the houses with local construction techniques and materials, providing a handcrafted aesthetic. The placement of the volumes integrates with the land, adapting to the topography and respecting the site's natural features. The dark, weathered color of the wood and its artisanal construction style blend seamlessly with the environment.

The inclusion of native vegetation and the careful placement of the buildings ensure minimal disturbance to the environment. The presence of a stable for horses aligns with local traditions, where horses play a significant role in cultural and sporting events.

The main challenge was to minimize the impact on the location, from the way the volumes were implanted into the topography to the materials used. These considerations inspired the project and were seen as opportunities to develop a design that is both environmentally friendly and elegantly simple.

The strategies employed were based on understanding the place, its roots, and morphology to create a dialogue between the built and natural environments. The choice of a unique, artisanal construction method using wood and the sustainable decisions regarding light management and ventilation highlight the project's commitment to harmony and simplicity in design.
