There is a singular elegance in allowing the landscape to speak first. Overlooking the ocean in Balneário Camboriú, this apartment becomes a quiet stage where architecture gently recedes, framing the horizon as a daily ritual of light, calm and continuity.
There is a rare discipline in allowing the view to dominate. In this 236-square-metre apartment overlooking the coastline of Balneário Camboriú, restraint replaces spectacle. The ocean is not a backdrop but the true protagonist, guiding every spatial, material and lighting decision with quiet clarity. Delivered newly completed by the developer, the apartment required no structural intervention. This allowed the project to focus on refinement rather than reconstruction. Original flooring and wall finishes were preserved, while the redesign concentrated on lighting, custom millwork and a thoughtful curation of furniture and art. The owners—who reside in another state—envisioned the property as a holiday retreat dedicated to rest and uninterrupted family time. A minimalist language and neutral palette established a clear guiding principle: the expansive sea view would remain centre stage.
Within the social areas, spatial planning became paramount. The layout was reconfigured to emphasise the panoramic beach view, arranging the living and dining zones in a calm linear sequence oriented toward the fully glazed façade. Two custom millwork systems introduce order and subtlety: a wood-panelled volume integrating storage for both kitchen and living areas while concealing the powder room door; and a white lacquered plane that camouflages corridor access, eliminating visual interruptions.
The kitchen, integrated with the barbecue area, balances function and sociability through a generous island accommodating both meal preparation and family gatherings. A compact lounge corner softens the transition between culinary and living zones, maintaining openness while encouraging interaction. In the private quarters, the same restrained language prevails. The primary suite, oriented toward ocean views, combines timber flooring with a woven cane headboard to convey warmth and wellbeing. Floating vanities, integrated media walls and built-in desks demonstrate how custom millwork can unify storage, technology and daily rituals without visual heaviness. Ultimately, the project does not celebrate excess, but clarity—an architecture that frames the horizon and, in doing so, elevates everyday life.
The full-height glazing demanded precise technical solutions. The television is mounted on a track over a stone base, positioned away from the glass to allow maintenance and minimise glare. A generous, light-toned sectional faces the ocean, reinforcing the dialogue between interior and landscape. Blackout blinds modulate brightness, shifting the atmosphere from expansive panorama to intimate retreat as required.
Materiality plays a quiet yet decisive role. Pale stone flooring and a stone window bench establish a cool, neutral foundation, balanced by vertical timber panelling and warm wooden tables and chairs. Woven rugs and natural fibres introduce texture without visual noise. Stones with a subtly recycled appearance add tactile depth and a sense of timelessness. The result is a contemporary coastal minimalism enriched with understated Brazilian-modern accents.
Furniture and art were selected with equal restraint. Behind the iconic Mole armchair, an artwork from Galeria Cosmos was chosen after careful study of scale, colour and proportion, bringing personality without overpowering the composition. Pieces by Arthur Casas, Sérgio Rodrigues and Jader Almeida reinforce a deep appreciation for Brazilian authorship, forming a concise and elegant arrangement that privileges comfort and authenticity. Natural plants punctuate the interiors, adding vitality and freshness.
The interior is organised through clean lines and disciplined sightlines. Low-profile furnishings and carefully calibrated proportions ensure the horizon remains uninterrupted. Ocean light defines the rhythm of daily life, casting shifting reflections that lend the space a measured and enduring calm.
