Inhabiting the Mountain – Casa PA by Estudio Bearzotti

In the heart of Villa Allende, a home emerges from the earth with the sobriety of concrete and the grace of thoughtful design. It’s an architectural piece that doesn’t impose, but rather adapts—sheltering life within while generously opening up to the grandeur of the Sierras Chicas.

Casa PA is born from a desire to live in balance with the landscape. Placed at the centre of the site through a precise incision into the mountainside, the home sits naturally within the Cordoban terrain, embracing both its topographical and climatic conditions. This foundational gesture defines not only the home’s formal silhouette but also establishes a strong bond with the land from which the architecture unfolds. Estudio Bearzotti chose an honest and expressive construction language: precast concrete. This choice speaks not only to structural logic but also to a clear aesthetic intention. The texture, tone, and modular rhythm of the material reinforce the home’s contemporary identity, lending presence and character without superfluous ornamentation. Its precise application allows for a rhythmic play of solids and voids, light and shadow, resulting in a rich and immersive spatial experience.

"Open to the landscape, yet intimate within—Casa PA strikes the perfect balance between exposure and retreat."

The main volume, rectangular in plan, is complemented by annexed volumes rendered in diverse materials that enrich the overall composition. This volumetric articulation avoids formal rigidity and encourages a fluid sequence of spaces, both interior and exterior. The result is a dwelling that, while clearly defined, adapts and responds intelligently and sensitively to its environment.

One of the project’s most eloquent gestures is its full opening to the front: a generous veranda and garden frame views of the Sierras, integrating the landscape into everyday life. Large glazed surfaces provide visual continuity through various spaces, while also enabling cross-ventilation and a constant presence of natural light. In this sense, the house acts as a mediator between the intimate and the open, the built and the natural.

"A home of precise details and clear intentions, where every material finds its place in harmony with the surroundings."

Despite this openness, Casa PA retains an introspective atmosphere. Interior spaces, far from being overexposed, maintain a sense of controlled serenity. This is a carefully calibrated enclosure—not one of isolation, but of comfort. The spatial distribution ensures thermal, acoustic, and emotional well-being, creating an intimate and protected living experience.

The pedestrian entrance unfolds from the rear patio—an unconventional move that lends a ceremonial quality to the approach. From this point, the architectural sequence reveals itself through carefully choreographed transitions between compression and expansion, each passage revealing new perspectives and sensations. The architecture doesn’t dominate; it accompanies.

With a total open surface area exceeding 1800 m², the home fully embraces its setting, incorporating the outdoors as an active component of the project. The veranda, for instance, acts as a natural extension of the living area, blurring the boundaries between inside and out. This relationship is heightened through careful attention to scale and proportion, which grants each space a measured balance between openness and containment. Casa PA exemplifies a contemporary model of living deeply connected to place. It is a project that combines design rationality with an emotional undertone. Every decision—from the use of precast concrete to the spatial organisation—responds to a sensitive logic that honours landscape, living, and the sensory experience of space.
