Elegance and Functionality – Clínica Dental Vega by Murillo y Hernández Arquitectura

A striking blend of tradition and modernity, Clínica Dental Vega by Murillo y Hernández Arquitectura redefines clinical spaces by merging functionality with aesthetic integrity.

Thoughtfully located in Salamanca, the clinic draws inspiration from the city’s architectural charm, ensuring a design that is as practical as it is evocative. The project’s initial challenge lay in working within a space of complex geometry. This was resolved by emphasizing the integration of natural light and earthy materials, most notably tones that echo the sandy hues of Salamanca’s iconic stone buildings. The clinic’s design respects the building’s original façade, particularly its granite base and proportions, using these elements as a guiding framework for the interior spaces.

The clinic is divided into two distinct zones: public and private. This separation leverages the site’s geometry to create an efficient layout. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a panelled oak feature wall, which conceals functional spaces like the restroom and a small archive. This feature anchors the welcoming waiting area and an adjacent office space, enclosed by elegant glass walls.

At the heart of the clinic lies a meticulously crafted central volume housing the dental treatment rooms and a radiology suite. The design of this central hub draws inspiration from the stonework of the building’s granite base, using Campaspero stone dimensions to establish a cohesive and proportionate modulation. This volume is not only visually striking but also operationally efficient, supporting dual internal circulation paths that allow staff to move discreetly and enhance both privacy and workflow.

Natural light is a cornerstone of the design. Wooden frames surround the windows on the façade, creating soft embouchures that both enhance the entry of light and maintain patient privacy. These frames also contribute a sculptural quality to the exterior, giving the clinic a distinctive presence while blending seamlessly with its urban context.

In the quieter, more private rear of the clinic lies an additional dental room illuminated by an internal courtyard. This secluded zone offers both an independent entrance through the building’s portal and access via the main clinic, creating a tranquil environment designed for patient comfort and discretion.

The dual role of the clinic as a functional healthcare facility and a design statement is further underscored by its subtle integration of modern solutions with a respect for historical architecture. The interplay between contemporary minimalism and a tactile material palette lends Clínica Dental Vega a timeless aesthetic that pays homage to Salamanca’s rich architectural heritage.
