The evening marked the 95th anniversary of AIA Miami, underscoring nearly a century of commitment to design excellence, inclusivity, and community impact.

The event brought together over 500 architects, designers, and industry professionals, making it one of the most prestigious gatherings in the region’s architectural calendar. With the theme set by the incoming 2025 AIA Miami president, the gala sought to highlight the ongoing evolution of the architectural profession. It was more than a celebration; it was a reflection on architecture’s broader role in shaping Miami’s future. This year, the gala introduced new initiatives such as the Cheryl H. Jacobs AIA Miami Impact Award, named after a visionary leader recognized for her contributions to diversity and outreach. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava delivered a touching tribute to Jacobs, underscoring her influence and dedication to creating more inclusive professional spaces. The gala also functioned as a fundraiser, raising approximately $12,000 to support scholarships and professional development grants for emerging architects.

The breadth of projects highlighted the creativity and adaptability of Miami’s architects, emphasizing their ability to merge form, function, and sustainability.

The newly introduced Diversity in Architecture Scholarship aimed to support underrepresented groups in the field, signaling a commitment to inclusivity that extends beyond design to professional development. The grant has already provided $22,000 in support since its inception, empowering more women to pursue their architectural careers.

Looking ahead to 2025, the newly appointed board pledged to build on this year’s momentum, focusing on initiatives that promote diversity, climate-responsive design, and economic viability. The incoming 2025 president summed up the evening’s sentiment with a powerful message: “Engage, inspire, and empower one another,” reflecting a vision of a more inclusive, innovative, and resilient architecture community in Miami.
