Brick Housing – House PB by A+R Mondejar Arquitectos

Brick, a material traditionally associated with construction, becomes the undisputed protagonist. Its use is not limited solely to the exterior structure but is also creatively integrated into the interior design, creating a sense of continuity and warmth throughout the living space. The layout of the house originates from two courtyards contained by this brick ribbon. The main one, oriented to the north, through which all spaces are entered: social, sleeping, and working. A courtyard located to the south, which contains the service spaces, and allows expansions of greenery in the living and master bedroom spaces.

The harmony between design and structure is manifested in every detail. From the arrangement of the bricks on the facade to the distribution of interior spaces, everything is carefully planned to create a cohesive and balanced environment that invites relaxation and well-being. The land has 3 important preserved trees, in its north courtyard, including a silver poplar that is the protagonist of the house. And a tree on the neighboring land, which is visually recovered, in the living space of the house.

The brick structure is not only aesthetically appealing but also highly functional. It provides excellent thermal and acoustic insulation, ensuring a comfortable indoor environment in all seasons and protecting the privacy of residents. From the outside of the house, the three situations are expressed, courtyard-house-courtyard, achieved through a continuous facade with different thicknesses. A brick wall, which dematerializes, and a permeable gate but that generates privacy.

The careful arrangement of interior spaces reflects attention to detail. Each room flows naturally into the next, creating a sense of continuity that facilitates daily life and fosters interaction among inhabitants. It is developed on the ground floor, its main entrance is through the gallery, directly linked to the living space. The interior-exterior relationship of social life spaces that extends to the courtyard is recovered, prioritizing the best orientations, and the link with the green space.

Common brick predominates throughout the project, arranged with different bonds in vertical and horizontal envelopes. It fulfills structural functions and, at the same time, provides spatial qualities, light and shadow situations. The party wall, the load-bearing walls of 30 centimeters, the exterior floor finish, the Catalan vault covering the social space, and the different facades are some of the places where it is expressed.

From its initial design to its final construction, it is a testament to the commitment to excellence in design and quality in construction. Every detail has been meticulously considered to ensure that the residence is a place to find peace, comfort, and happiness.
