An Oasis of Peace – Leioa by Marina Acosta
The renovation project in Leioa is an ode to serenity and functionality. This home, reimagined by Marina Acosta, has become a sanctuary where natural light and earth-toned decor create an atmosphere of peace. Every detail has been designed to envelop its inhabitants in a sense of calm, making the home a place where tranquility is the essence.
One of the biggest challenges of the project was maintaining a balance between functionality and a cozy aesthetic. Through an attentive approach to the client’s needs, the space not only met but exceeded their expectations. Upon completion, the family expressed their satisfaction with phrases such as: "We wouldn’t change a thing," and "It’s perfect just the way you’ve left it." These words reflect the success of a design that not only met practical requirements but also transformed their home into a true sanctuary of peace. After 20 years, the family felt their home needed a radical change to adapt to their new needs and desires. What began as a simple idea of modernization turned into a comprehensive project, where the pursuit of spaciousness and light became the central axis of the design. With a sensitive and detailed approach, Marina Acosta set out not only to redesign the spaces but also to reinvent the family's daily experience within their home.

The project’s design revolves around the living room, a space conceived as the nerve center of family life. The homeowners, passionate about cinema, wanted a comfortable and functional TV area where they could enjoy long movie afternoons together. The creation of a custom-made TV unit, perfectly integrated with the library and sofa, not only fulfills this function but also adds a personalized design element that makes the space feel unique and cozy.
The transformation of the home was not limited to the living room. The layout of the spaces was completely redesigned to optimize flow and functionality. Every detail was meticulously considered, from the choice of finishes to the arrangement of furniture, to ensure that the home reflected a balance between aesthetics and practicality. The dining table, for instance, is extendable, allowing the family to host friends and relatives without sacrificing space in their day-to-day life.

The interior design is based on a color palette that evokes calm and serenity. Earth-inspired browns, beiges, and whites are combined with decorative elements such as landscape paintings and plants that add a natural and cozy touch. Textiles like cotton and linen were chosen for their natural quality, contributing to the creation of a warm and relaxing atmosphere in every room.
The home’s original wooden floor, though worn by time, was restored, sanded, and matte varnished to achieve a more natural finish. This process not only revived the beauty of the material but also added a layer of authenticity and warmth to the design, connecting the modern renovation with the home’s history.
Lighting was a crucial aspect of the project’s success. Due to the inability to lower the ceilings to incorporate recessed lighting, carefully planned indirect lighting was chosen. Surface-mounted spotlights, wall sconces, and table lamps with warm light transformed the space, providing a welcoming atmosphere that invites relaxation. According to Marina Acosta's studio, lighting represents 80% of the design’s success, a statement that materializes in every corner of the home.
