Architecture is the thoughtful creation of space where the integrity of materials and the virtue of simplicity form a sanctuary of tranquility and inspiration.
The story of Riad No. 37 began in 2019. At the time, the Riad was not much more than a ruin. Christophe Simeon and his team undertook the ambitious task of restoring the original building organically, working with what was already there, from the door handles to some of the windows. The ambition has always been to honor the space and leave it better than they found it.
Working with local craftspeople and their own designs, Simeon’s team rebuilt the Riad into a new version of itself. All details are handmade, resulting in perfectly imperfect organic shapes. This meticulous process ensured that each element, from the floors to the furniture, reflected the unique blend of Moroccan tradition and modern design sensibility.
The interior combines Scandinavian design sensibility with local craftsmanship and materials. All details, from the floors to the furniture to the signature cocktails, have been handpicked and designed. The kitchen serves primarily organic, local ingredients but also offers familiar classics like coffee, ensuring a comforting yet exotic culinary experience.
In Riad No. 37, the philosophy of balance is paramount: between bustle and tranquility, between engaging with others and time alone.
The design of Riad No. 37 encourages meaningful interactions with other guests, chefs, and residents while also allowing for personal reflection. The space is designed to oscillate between stimulation and contemplation: dive into the vibrant, colorful streets of the Medina, relax in the shade of the courtyard, or take a refreshing dip in the pool.
Riad No. 37 is not just another hotel. It is a space that fosters connections and creativity. The Riad also organizes residencies for artists and creatives, promoting inspiring encounters and supporting the creative community. This aspect of the Riad adds an extra layer of cultural and artistic engagement, making it a hub for innovation and inspiration.
Each room in Riad No. 37 can be booked individually, but the entire Riad is also available for rent upon request. This flexibility ensures that the space can cater to both individual guests and larger groups, offering a personalized and intimate experience for all who stay there.
Riad No. 37 stands as a testament to the impact of simplicity and purity in architectural form. It is a masterpiece that inspires a deep appreciation for the inherent beauty and power of simplicity. The Riad’s transformation is a reflection of the potential of thoughtful design to create spaces that are not only beautiful and functional but also deeply connected to their cultural roots and history.
