A Modern Waterfront Retreat – Elysee on the Bay by Mayra Perez Designs

Nestled along a picturesque waterfront, this retreat effortlessly bridges luxury and simplicity. Envisioned as a space to escape and unwind, the design draws inspiration from its natural surroundings, exuding calm through warm woods, soft neutrals, and bespoke details that elevate every corner.

Designed as a peaceful getaway for the client and their loved ones, this property serves as a gathering space used a few times each year. From the outset, the goal was to create an environment that balances relaxation with understated elegance, incorporating clean lines, modern elements, and natural materials that reflect its stunning location. To achieve a serene ambiance, the design relied heavily on the organic warmth of walnut wood tones. Used consistently throughout the home, this material creates visual harmony, while neutral hues in grays, taupes, and beiges add a layer of calmness. These elements are further enriched with textural details in wallpapers and fabrics, complemented by luxurious sintered stone surfaces.

One of the standout features of this project is the bespoke millwork, designed to fit seamlessly into each space. From the moment guests enter the foyer, they are greeted by a floating console paired with a backlit bronze oval mirror, setting a sophisticated tone. In the main entrance, a striking wooden slat partition wall integrates another floating console adorned with Neolith stone—a perfect interplay of functionality and artistry.

Each room in this retreat reflects a commitment to detail and craftsmanship. The master bedroom boasts a built-in headboard wall unit with integrated shelving, combining storage and style. The dining area features a custom bar with wine storage and a stone countertop, an ideal addition for entertaining. Integrated LED lighting enhances each millwork piece, offering both illumination and ambiance.

Taking advantage of the property’s abundant natural light, the design includes warm LED fixtures to maintain a cozy atmosphere during the evenings. A lowered ceiling in key areas accommodates recessed lights, while a chandelier in the dining area and pendant lights in the master bedroom add elegance and functionality.

Every project comes with its challenges, and this retreat was no exception. When the client required access to the property on short notice, the master bedroom needed to be furnished and fitted with blackout shades within a week. Meeting this request required creativity and adaptability, resulting in a swift and successful solution that aligned with the overall vision.

The client expressed immense satisfaction with the final result, particularly appreciating the custom wood cabinetry in the master bedroom. These bespoke features, tailored specifically for this retreat, provide a unique touch not easily replicated, adding depth and personality to the design.

Beyond aesthetics, the design prioritizes functionality. From the flow of furniture placement to cleverly integrated storage solutions—such as built-in laundry spaces—the retreat now feels intuitively designed for comfort and convenience. The harmonious interplay of materials, lighting, and layout ensures that every aspect of the space contributes to its serene and modern appeal.
